A Glimpse of the Current National Security Mess in America

by Trowbridge H. Ford

The appointment of former Acting DCI John McLaughlin by National Intelligence Director Admiral Dennis Blair to head a body of experts to make recommendations on how to improve national security is hardly surprising, but it just illustrates yet again that the system is broken, starting with the officials who are running it. The tasks are to make recommendations about how to prevent another military shootout, like what Major Nidal Hasan committed at Fort Hood on November 5th, and to make sure that another airline suicide bomber, like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, doesn't succeed next time. The problems are really proving beyond the capacity of anyone to connect all the assorted dots coming out all over the place, though the personnel in charge, despite the protests by the President to the contrary, seem to have been glaringly inadequate from the outset, making one suspect that systematic intelligence change has joined the agenda increasingly. McLaughlin should have gotten Blair's job in the first place, and Department of Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano and current DCI Leon Panetta are just political hacks who would never have gotten their positions if it was not for political influence in the making of such appointments then in Washington.

Why McLaughlin would take the task when he has been kicked in the face by the politicians so many times in the past is beyond me. He was passed over by Clinton when a replacement for John Deutch had to be found when his security failures forced his retirement. His replacement, George Tenet, was such a political hack that he conspired with Oklahoma Democratic Senator David Boren to have 15 unarmed CIA agents, it seems, capture the 9/11 suicide bombers, thinking that they were merely highjackers who could be restrained, once all four highjacked airlines got to LA. Of course, instead of Tenet, along with Boren, getting not only sacked but sent to prison for this gigantic failure, he was kept on to keep the agenda of preventive wars going, only to be obliged to resign when his lies about Saddam's WMD were most belatedly disclosed.

Then, instead of McLaughlin finally taking the helm at Langley, long-time political hack Porter Goss was obliged to take the post who then just passed its running over to other hacks, especially Pat Murray. When Goss was conspicuously absent even from headquarters, it was determined that he and Executive Director Kyle 'Dusty' Foggo had been spending too much of their Agency time with most compliant whores, going all the way back to the infamous StB double agents Hana and Karl Koechers.

Under the circumstances, it was hardly surprising that NSA Director General Michael Hayden took over at the CIA, as it had been doing most of the Agency's work since 9/11, as James Bamford has detailed in The Shadow Factory. To make up for the intercepts of calls that 9/11 suicide leader Khalid al-Mihdhar had made in San Diego and had received from the ops center in Yemen which had been collected but not passed along to the FBI, CIA and other agencies - what was apparently a cover up for what his boss Tenet at CIA had arranged with his 15 unarmed agents on the last three planes failing to regain their control - he had NSA go all out in secret eavesdropping on all communications in and out of the country aka the "special collection program" despite its infringements of personal freedoms, and being steps towards a police state. Little wonder that the most accommodating Hayden did not survive as DCI when the Bush administration was replaced by Obama's.

To the surprise of nearly all, he picked Leon Panetta, not the retired McLaughlin, as Hayden's replacement. McLaughlin had had a too close relationship with the political officials, especially Tenet and Vice President Cheney, to survive any transfer of power. Panetta, a former Congresssman, head of Clinton's Office of Management and Budget, and then his Chief of Staff, knew all about the dirty side of the Clinton administration by keeping DCI James Woolsey from ever meeting the President, and his appointment appeared a concession to them, especially to Hillary for stepping aside when the Democratic election of a President stood in the balance over how the New York delegation and subsequenct ones voted at the Convention. She could well have won the nomination if the process had continued with the vast majority of the super delegates' preferences yet to be determined as the rules required.

Panetta had always been in favor of Hillary, contributing $2,000 to her campaign, and complaining about the conduct of her campaign from the outset, especially by the former President, as if he should have been running it. Penatta would have made sure that Bubba did not call Teddy Kennedy, asking for his endorsement of Hillary because Obama was little more than a waiter.

And Panetta's appointment was not lost upon fellow Democrat and fellow-Californian Senator Diane Feinstein when she got wind of it, complaining about not having been consulted about it, and stating that she would have preferred the nomination of an intelligence professional, like former Deputy Director McLaughlin. Her complaint seems well justified in terms of how the Agency has been run by Panetta, more interested in repeating the daring-do of its former cowboys as if he wants to preside over its demise rather than make sure that serious assessments of real threats are made - as the recent suicide killings of its agents in Afghanistan while the airline fiasco was occurring in Detroit more than amply demonstrated. As a former Agency official told Bamford: "Because of the 'need to surge hundreds and hundreds at CTC (Counterterrorism Center), there's nobody in these area divisions anymore, everybody's working the CT target. Africa Division is smaller now than the number of people we have in Baghdad, The entire division.' " (Quoted from p. 156.) It was from Nigeria that Umar set out on his suicide mission.

The situation is hardly better where the Agency is fully operational. In Afghanistan, overworked, often recalled, retired volunteers risk their lives, handing out money to the natives in the hope of their telling them where Osama and the Taliban leaders are located, so they can be killed or captured with the help of GPS, but it isn't working. It was bound to result in the recent tragedy as little has been done to fix the amateur operations. The Baghdad contingent is four times the size of what was originally planned, and it is just sitting around, reminiscent of what happened in Saigon during the final days of the Vietnam War. "Despite the surge," Bamford explained, "quantity did not translate into quality. Many of the new arrivals had little or no training in the right languages, interrogation skills or tradecraft." (p. 157) Because of the lack of human intelligence, especially from the CIA, the National Security Agency is just becoming more and more depended upon in counterterrorism while it is becoming less and less accountable.

The appointment of Napolitano to be the third head of the Department of Homeland Security seems to have been one to make sure that the system didn't work. Given her political career, especially in Arizona as federal attorney, its Attorney General, and Governor, she has had almost no experience in security work, and her appointment must be seen, like Panetta's, as a favor to the Clinton camp. She has been particularly concerned about right-wing domestic groups, recruiting disgruntled veterans, to carry out terrorism - a continuing concern of hers since the 1995 bombing of the FBI office in Oklahoma City - and about Canada's alleged allowing foreign terrorists to enter the States without much trouble. Her response to the attempted destruction of Northwest Flight 253 over Detroit, stating to CNN's Candy Crowley that it showed that the security system worked well was so contrary to the facts that not only her own position is now in doubt but also the DHS unless it is vastly changed.

Which brings us to the National Intelligence Agency and Admiral Blair's qualifications to be its third Director. Blair, a long-time Clinton crony since they were Rhodes Scholars together at Oxford, is a gung-ho Navy man, more desirous of socking it to an alleged enemy than just making sure that disasters don't occur. Blair's experience as Commander of the Pacific Fleet at the end of the 1990's and into the Bush administration, showed that he was more interested in bloodying China's nose rather than making more amicable relations. He did spare words when telling Chinese counterparts who owned their airspace and surrounding waters when it came to Taiwan, and demonstrated it by causing the forced landing of an EP-3E reconnaissance flight on China's Haman Dao island on April Fool's Day 2001, the first interantional crisis of the new Bush administration. SoD Donald Rumsfeld ordered Blair to make a detailed report of the apparently completely unnecessary operation. Since Blair had authorized the missions, recommending that they be resumed immediately, he tried to keep his findings from Rumsfeld - what led to his being finished at the Pentagon, whatever happened to the missions. (For more on this, see Bob Woodward, Bush at War, Part III: State of Denial, p. 28ff.)

In short, McLaughlin's appointment seems a belated recognition by Obama that the old organization has to be rebuilt while the squabbling Clinton people are sent to the sidelines. While most of the CIA is joined with the NIA, and much of the DHS is moved to the FBI, Blair, Panetta, and Napolitono will be forced to resign. The President is no longer under the direction of the former President's gung-ho cronies, thanks to the new revelations about their attitude towards him, and a serious effort to end the traditional intelligence in-fighting among the various agencies will finally be attempted.

You, Trowbridge Ford, have reached an unforgivable low. Shame on you for suggesting that Capt. Joe Glenn Hyde, Jr. was not killed in the Florida straits when his U-2 recon plane was downed 21NOV1963 while on an overflight of Cuba. His family has suffered from his loss, and your cruel comment suggesting that Capt Hyde is alive 'living under an assumed name' and somehow connected to the so-called conspiracy in the Kennedy Assassination is simply a moral low of unforgivable depth. Unforgivable. May God damn you to hell for eternity, you sick selfish ill-informed corrupted bastard.

You can call me every name in the book, but it won't change the facts that there was a serious fraud going on when your father, it seems, was killed, especially he got no recognition or credit for his alleged death when you, your mother, and your grandparents, all smiles, were at Greenville AFB to receive his DFC and a Cluster to an Air Medal in early May 1964.

It's as if the alleged fatal flight never occurred.

Error to be corrected;

John Glenn was launched in a Mercury space capsule placed on top of an Atlas rocket. Not the space shuttle as you erroneously stated in your article

Scott Carpenter and Gus Grissom had preceded him with two Mercury space capsule launches on top of Mercury Redstone rockets.

The only sense that I can make of your comment about astronaut John Glenn is that you are referring to my earlier article, "'Natural' Disasters," where I discussed another Pentagon 'false flag' operation, the downing of his orbiting space capsule to make it look as if the Cubans had done it.

The Pentagon has gotten so involved in such projects that it is now experiencing feedback from the 'natural' world it is setting up, the earthquake in Chile which the ones it caused in December 2004triggered because of the instability they created with the Antarctic and Pacific plates - loosening at the other end what happened to the Nazca one.

I would add a "monkey wrench" at this point. While attending numerous demolition courses in the military, some taught by CIA, plastic explosive, including PETN, requires a blasting cap for detonation. You can fire bullets into plastic explosive and it won't go off! Grenades have blasting caps to detonate PETN, the active ingredient. Seems as though our Xmas Bomber was NOT taught to bring along a blasting cap, like the Shoe Bomber, so no one on either plane was in any danger. What was accomplished around the world was a rapid raise in the FEAR FACTOR that keeps this cesspool stirred up! http://johnmccarthy90066.tripod.com/id472.html

The only thing I would add now is the arrest of 'Jihad Jane' aka Colleen LaRose whose plot is becoming more suspicious by the day - i.e., to recruit Muslim assassins to kill unspecified targets, apparently cartoonist here in Sweden, Lars Vilks.
This, I believe, was the cover for an attempt to entrap as a likely white helper of any such plan because of my continued complaints of what America's intelligence community is involved in - going back all the way to the early 1990s when the FBI tried to get me convicted of libelling Richard Nixon until he upped and died, and then the CIA tried to make it look like I had died of natural causes after it secretly ingested into me minute quantities of ricin.
If my theory about the joint FBI-CIA plot to entrap me proves true - what I am writing an article about now - I shall begin a massive, civil damage suit against the US government for attempting it.
These efforts can only add to the American inteligence mess.

Mr. Ford, I am the younger brother of Tina Ricca who was murdered at the NRO headquarters in Cahntilly, VA in 1993. I am trying to gather information about the circumstances surrounding her death, and I read in your article about how "Ms. Ricca had been murdered for apparently helping disclose the NRO's runaway character to reporters like Steven Aftergood"...I contacted Mr. Aftergood, and he informed me that he does not recollect having this conversation. Can you please contact me so that I can continue my pursuit of the truth in this matter? Thank you for your time.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

Hi John,
I was going to send you an e-mail but decided to post here because I think it is important to keep the discussion public.
As for Aftergood not being able to recall any such discussion about the new NRO headquarters with your murdered sister, I find it most interesting.
Given what he wrote about it in the August/September 1994 issue of Secrecy and Governmental Bulletin, I'm sure he would deny any contact with her if it had not occurred.
In sum, I would have put her meeting him before she was killed in more certain terms if I had known of his uncertain recall.
Of course, I shall do whatever I can to help in finding your sister's killers, but one can have little hope in the process when the federal government is out of control, and the corrupt media does nothing about it.
Now I even have to write my own article about Leon Panetta's CIA, with the help of Swedish securocrats, trying to entrap me as a white male willing to help Islamic terrorists through the manipulation of what 'Jihad Jane' was seemingly up to on her visit to Europe while I was away in Califonria. The plot apparently was to fill my computer with incriminating evidence, and then make me my own exposer by going to the police about the break-in and theft of a CD player they had stolen in the process.
Fortunately, I have not gone yet to the police.
If I find anything new about your sister's assassination, I shall certainly inform you. Also, feel free to ask any more questions.

The person, John Ricca, who apparently knows the most about your sister's assassination is the same Leon Panetta who worked with Clinton's NSA staff, particulary future DCI George Tenet, to see that I was gotten rid of in Portugal during 1995-6.
Panetta was the chief of Clinton's OMB when Tina was murdered, along with several others, especially Paul Wilcher and Luther Parks, and he reviewed these White House covert actions when he became Clinton's Chief of Staff, and sat in on the PDB.
It was because of this, as David Ignatius pointed out in January 2009 in The Washington Post when the apparently surprise choice was made. Of course, with covert insiders, this was no surprise at all, as Panetta knows where most of the bodies are buried, and is eager to add to them.
After I read your post, I bought Tim Weiner's Legacy of Ashes in the hope that he would say something about the mess at the NRO when your sister was murdered because he had an article about it just when Aftergood had his, but Weiner is most cryptic about it all, even worse than after William King Harvey was allegedly fired in May 1967.(p.316)
If I get any more ideas about how to break through this wall of secrecy, I shall post it.

Trowbridge, thanks for the information. It is difficult to sift through all of this information and come out with clarity, however I will continue to pursue this. I was able to read the article that Mr. Aftergood wrote in the Secrecy and Government Bulletin, and he did not mention Tina in his article. I'm sure that there are interests to protect information even within that agency, however I suppose that I still need to educate myself on what the purpose of that institution really is. Anyways, I was trying to decipher your dialogue when you stated "I'm sure he would deny any contact with her if it had not occurred." That seems like a logical statement, but the choice of words leaves a bit of ambiguity. Can you tell me what led you to believe that they (Tina and Mr. Aftergood) were having correspondence? Is this something you consider fact, or is this purely speculative? I know that this type of case is highly challenging, and I am aware of the corruption and evil within the "powers that be", but it is my obligation to pursue any information that I can, especially since the investigating agencies that have supposedly worked on the case before oviously no longer have interest in it. Thanks again for your response.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

John, thanks for your response which has made me do more research, making me more convinced that not only was your sister Tina murdered but also Angus Mackenzie for telling tales about the National Reconnaissance Office.

Mackenzie, before he died from a brain tumor, connected the NRO to CIA fronts, Southern Air Transport and Rocky Mountain Air (p. 47), and implicitly to President Clinton's role in Iran-Contra.

Your sister clearly learned of the huge size of its new headquarters from the unclassified blueprints it filed in its building permit application - what any guard of the premises would want to have available.
When she discovered the scope of the project, she must have sought out all kinds of people - those finishing Mackenzie's manuscript,Stephen Aftergood, Bob Woodward's people at the Washington Post, Tim Weiner of the New York Times, etc., but without any success until she was murdered in November 1993 - just when Clinton's body count got seriously started.

Congress, of course, made a belatedly, false outcry about it all during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on August 8, 1994, blaming the lack of oversight on NRO secrecy when it was really the lack of its research into items buried in 'base' budget items.
Of course, the Post became totally mute about Tina's murder because it had only helped promote it.
And the same goes for the followup by Aftergood, Weiner, and those who finished Mackinzie's manuscript.
The media is just a most willing asssistant to our corrupt, murdering government.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

I notice that in rereading what I wrote earlier, I misstated the date of Tina's murder by a year, and the correction just makes matters worse.

She was killed in November 1994.

This was after the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in which Senator Moynihan just got more ammunition for getting rid of America's secret government, and Representatives Robert Torricelli and James Traficant of the House one echoed his sentiments.
This must have had NRO, thanks to Jimmy Hill's direction, hunting for any alleged leakers, resulting in suspicions that she was the one behind the forced acknowledgement of what was going on, and in her assassination.
And why the media people earlier mentioned didn't pick up on it is even more damning.

This guy is a traiter. He has been in contact with Iranian intelligence in Sweden, and he tried contacting Jihad Jane.

He will happily sell our nation to the highest bidder.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

Who, me?

Yes, I did contact the Iranian Embassy in Stockholm to find out if Colleen LaRose or someone acting in her stead had contacted it by telephone, e-mail or in person, volunteering my services as an assassin of Swedish cartoonist Vilks.

This was because someone broke into our rowhouse while she was in Sweden and I was away in California, and looked through my files, correspondence and computers in the hope of finding evidence of my being in contact with Savak - what resulted in their squirting superglue on some of my clippings, improperly replacing the cover on my old computer, and possibly planting incriminating evidence in it, what is now being investigated.

For good measure, the burglars stole a CD player either to confuse me about what happened, or in frustration over the break-in proving unsuccessful.

In any case, I shall try to get to the bottom of American securocrats trying to entrap me in any of their dirty work, and if this makes me a traiter, so be it.

I am an historian, not a possessor of any of its vital secrets.

Trowbridge, you were correct in your earlier post that Tina was murdered in 1993. I can only speculate that the invisible empire was trying to silence any potential leaks that would result in a possible senate intelligence comittee hearing.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

I was not correct in stating in an earlier post that Tina Ricca was murdered in 1993, but in 1994, as I posted in a subsequent correction.

And there was a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing about the rogue NRO before her murder, leading to the Aspin-Brown Commission which dragged out the process of intelligence community reform so that her murder and others could be attempted - even my own, like Paul Wilcher's, in Portugal during 1995-6 - what made the inaction by the Senate Intelligence Committe all the more damning as Clinton's body count continued to mount.

The USA is just a rogue, rambo regime.

Trowbridge H. Ford said...

I stand corrected about when Tina Ricca was assassinated.

It was in November 1993 when CIA/NSA was getting rid of all the troublemakers threatening its plans to finally expose the Agency's Rick Ames without any blowback from its Freddie Woodruff, difficulties in settling the Olof Palme assassination at Viktor Gunnarsson's expense, or receiving any damaging feedback from Tina about its runaway, illegal character - what has continued right down to now with their murders of Gareth Williams and Gudrun Loftus.

Some rogue state!
